Horse
Interaction for Children

For a child smitten with horses, mythologies
come alive in storybooks. Stories of wild
mustangs leaping from cliffs rather than
face capture, tales of equine heroes who
sacrificed their lives for the people
who loved them, all are part of the captivation
that occurs once the horse runs freely
though the bloodstream.
Why does the horse engage the child’s
heart? Perhaps it is because the horse
is not the captor of the hearts at all,
but the messenger of commandeering our
own lives, truly setting us free.
In the company of a horse, already perfect
in her nature, we discover our own authenticities.
We form a trusting relationship not by
controlling, but by earning our place
through authentic action.
Often being in a horses presence can
be a humbling experience, we are confronted
with fear and self-doubt. But it is also
a rewarding place that finely tunes natural
intuition and compassion, empowering and
validating the strength of the child's
spirit.
